Bose spends a ton of money advertising their speakers, and they have for years. But are Bose speakers really worth the money? Do they live up to their hype? Sure, there are a few Bose systems that we recommend even here, but do you automatically get something better when you buy Bose? Today, we take a brief look at Bose speakers and try to answer that question once and for all.
In the past, Bose made a name for themselves with their tiny speakers that sounded amazing. At that point in time, they were some of the best you could get in that size. Their quality was good and their size made them very attractive to many people. Of course, you had to pay for it. Still, they were really the only one in the game at that point. Today, however, things are different.
The reality of these speakers today is very different from in the past. Sure, they do have a few good systems out there, but unfortunately many of their systems are only average at best. If overall quality of sound is what you are looking for, I believe you should consider Bose, but don’t count out their competition.
I have to admit, I have always loved the design of Bose speaker systems. Whether it is their speakers or their full systems, Bose has always taken time to design a sleek looking product that looks good in your home. Of course there is a lot more to speakers than just looking good, and Bose doesn’t always measure up in that department. Just look at the reviews at audioreview.com.
If there is one thing that has become synonymous with Bose, it’s a high price tag. Think of them like Apple. They charge a higher price for a speaker system that is basically the same as their competitors. Essentially, you are paying for a brand name. Sure, they were the first to do it and make decent systems, but there are many competitors out there that even make better systems for a lower price.
Now I don’t want to sound like I’m “Bose Bashing” as they call it on many audio sites, because I do believe they do some things really well and many of their systems are decent. However, for pro use, they get some of the lowest reviews around. Still, for consumer systems, they have some good products.
At the end of the day I think you should ignore the brand hype and listen to what they offer. Contrast that with other systems out there and see how they stack up. In some cases, you may find that the these speakers are better than the competition, in others you will find they don’t quite cut the mustard.
What do you think about Bose speaker systems? Do you think they are worth the price tag or do you prefer other systems out there? Tell me your thoughts in the comments below.
