So you’ve bought a brand new speaker system to replace your old one. That’s great. But what do you do with your old speakers? You don’t want to store an old speaker system forever, so you need to figure out a way to get rid of them. Let’s take a look at five things you can do with your old speakers once you have replaced them with something new.
1. Sell Them
If your speakers are still in great shape and they sound perfect, then you may be able to make a little back on them if you sell them. You can list ads for the speakers on social media sites and even use sites such as Craigslist to list your speakers for sale. Make sure you list them at a decent price that will allow you to make a little on them while still being able to sell them so you can get rid of them. Otherwise you may find little interest in your sale.
2. Repurpose Them
Before you decide to remove them from your home, why not first see if you can use them elsewhere. If you just replaced your home theater system, would that same speaker set still work say for your computer or maybe for another television in your bedroom? If so, then instead of getting rid of them, why not give your other system a bit of an upgrade after you finish upgrading your main speaker system?
3. Give them Away
Chances are, you know someone that could use a good set of speakers. If your old speakers are still in good shape but you just don’t have a use for them anymore, check with your friends and family to see if anyone needs a good set of speakers. I’m betting someone will speak up and take them. This will give your old speakers new life as they find even more use for maybe years to come in someone else’s home.
4. Donate Them to Charity
If you don’t know anyone that wants your speakers, and they are in decent shape, then you could always consider donating them to charity. There are tons of charities such as the Salvation Army that would be happy to take them off your hands. They then take these items and sell them at low prices or donate them to people who need them. Remember, not everyone can afford decent speakers, but that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve to listen to good music. It will also feel good to give a little back, as well. So what are you waiting for?
5. Recycle Them
Once you have exhausted every other alternative use for your old speakers like the ones we talked about above, it could be time to get rid of them once and for all. Whatever you do, don’t just throw them away. Your speakers are made from materials that can be recycled, so check with your local recycling centers about taking them. Whether it’s the wood, plastic or the electronics inside, it can all be reused. Remember, your old speakers don’t need to slowly rot in a landfill, give the material new life by sending it to be recycled instead of tossing it.
There are many options available to you if you have an extra set of old speakers lying around your house. When all else fails, you may need to recycle them. But I’m betting if you follow the other options in order you will get rid of them long before it comes to that.
