In today’s world, we are bombarded with surround sound systems and multi-speaker systems. There are so many choices they can be overwhelming. But how many speakers do you really need? Today, we will look at a few different scenarios and how many speakers you need in your setup for each of those different situations.
When you are travelling, many people just stick with headphones. However, there are many travel speakers out there today that connect to your device with Bluetooth. Many of these feature only one speaker, which will work in most situations. However, you may miss out on proper music mixes if they make use of the left and right channel’s separately. There are some travel friendly speakers that feature two different speakers in the same case as well. This may be the best option if you are going for the best quality of sound while you travel.
When you listen to music, you usually will need at least two speakers to cover both the left and right channels. Some music mixes will make use of both channels, so if you want to get the full effect of the music, you will want it pumping out of both a left and a right speaker. That being said, you may also want to add a subwoofer into the mix to really get that thumping bass going. If you have a larger room, you may want to add a second pair of left and right speakers as well to truly cover the room with sound.
Outdoor music can be problematic for many users. If you are having an outdoor party, you will want your guests to hear the music, but you don’t want it to overpower them. A standard two speaker system just won’t cut it, especially if you are trying to cover a large area with sound. While the number of speakers will vary, I recommend a minimum of four speakers strategically placed around your area so your guests can hear the music without being overpowered in one particular area. Of course, if you have a dance floor outside, you will want to focus your efforts there, as that is where you will need the most sound.
Movies and Television
Now when you are watching movies or your favorite television programs, you will want more speakers. Today’s modern shows and movies often feature surround sound. That means that you are going to want a full surround sound system. That means you will need left and right speakers for both the front and the back, as well as a center channel speaker and a subwoofer to pump out those booming low notes. This is even more important when you watch big blockbuster movies, and it will truly enhance your viewing experience.
While we always love more speakers, the fact is they aren’t always necessary. Depending on your situation, you may need anywhere from one speakers to as many as six. When you are purchasing speakers, it’s important that you get the right amount to meet your needs.
