Three Pros and Cons of Bluetooth Speakers

Are you considering purchasing Bluetooth speakers for your home? Bluetooth speakers can be a really convenient way to enjoy your music, but they aren’t right for everyone or for every situation. Like anything, there are areas where Bluetooth speakers excel, and other areas where they fall short. Understanding these pros and cons is essential in decided if they are right for you.

Pros of Bluetooth Speakers

First, let’s look at the pros of purchasing and using Bluetooth speakers. These pros can make anyone want to invest in a good set of Bluetooth speakers.

1. Great Portability

Most Bluetooth speakers are very small, making them perfect to take with you for sound on the go. Sure, there are larger options out there, but there are hundreds of small Bluetooth speakers out there that are great for listening when you aren’t at home. Just make sure you don’t disturb those around you.

2. Perfect for Smaller Rooms

Not every room needs giant speakers, but smaller rooms need music love, too. So what do you do? A Bluetooth speaker isn’t as large as many regular speakers and they don’t output sound that is as loud as a high end speaker setup. This makes them perfect for smaller rooms. Because of their size, they are also great for placing on a shelf or on a tabletop without them swallowing the room in which they reside.

3. Ease of Installation

Speaker setup can be complicated. There are wires everywhere and you just aren’t sure where to hook each one. Bluetooth speakers and wireless and very easy. All you do is pair them with your host device, such as a laptop or your smartphone, and you’re ready to go.

Cons of Bluetooth Speakers

Now that we understand the good, we need to examine the bad. Remember, they don’t shine at everything. Let’s find out why.

1. Audio Quality

This is one area that has been improving over the years, and while there are some that are truly amazing, by and large the audio quality just doesn’t quite measure up to traditional speakers. This is usually due to the size and then, of course, the connection, which we will talk more about below. If you want the best quality, wire up a high end set for your listening pleasure.

2. No Surround Options

Because Bluetooth speakers aren’t usually a set, your surround options are very limited. Sure, you can add more speakers if your connection can handle it, but they aren’t designed to work in a surround sound setup. If you want surround, you are going to have to switch to a good old fashioned wired speaker.

3. Connection Issues

This can be a big problem with Bluetooth speakers. While it’s not always the speakers at fault, it is something you have to consider when you purchase a good set of speakers. Some speakers are only compatible with certain versions of Bluetooth, and your device may not broadcast in that same version. Even if you do make a connection, interface and other device issues could cause connection problems that will result in bad sound or no sound at all.

Bluetooth speakers are great devices, but they aren’t right for everyone or for every situation where you need a boost to your sound. Still, if you need something small and/or portable, then you really can’t be good quality Bluetooth speakers.
